Let Me Explain

In Jeremy's last post he made the following claim..."Bobbi cant say the same. She told me the Olympics are so boring and a waste of time to watch. She even told me today that the Olympics are nothing but a waste of money and thinks that every Olympics should be in Rome so that new stadiums and venues don't need to be put up all over the world for only two weeks" That is not exactly what I said nor what I meant, however it just goes to show you how poorly we (men & women in general) communicate.

First I must admit that I do find the Olympics quite boring, however, I understand the significance of them as well as what they stand for and I appreciate that aspect of them. I just have a hard time watching people I know nothing about play sports or performing an athletic event. I would rather watch college or pro sports of a team or an athlete I have been following or am familiar with. The Olympic athletes are new faces to me and I have a hard time just watching a two week long marathon of athletes perform. Not to mention that means regular programing is canceled and my husband disappears into the bedroom all day and night in front of the TV.

About it being a waste of money.....I didn't mean it like that. What I meant is that it makes no sense to spend so much money building new facilities every four years just to have a new city host the Olympics. When in reality the the Ancient Olympic Games, originally referred to as simply the Olympic Games were a series of athletic competitions held between various city-states of Ancient Greece. They began in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, and were celebrated until 393 AD The prizes were olive wreaths, palm branches and woollen ribbons. I don't think they built a new Olympic Stadium every four years. So I was merely suggesting that the Olympics be held in Olympia every four years instead of moving it around, all in the name of conserving money.
That's all I have to say about that

You guys crack me up. Bobbi you won't be surprised by this one, but I'm with Jeremy. I love the Olympics. It's the one time I actually have the TV on. Oh and during the NBA Finals. I don't know what it is, but I have been fascinated with the Olympics since I was a kid.

I do get your point about wasting money, but then again it's the modern age, how dare we discriminate and hold it in Olympia every year:) That would be racist:)

One question should clear up all debates: Who doesn't need a new, state of the art, stadium and facilities? Imagine Phelps having to fly to Greece for swim practice because they are the only ones with an Olympic size pool. The winter Olympics brought tons of great facilities to Utah that were greatly subsidized by the revenue of the tourists. Facilities that Jeremy yearns for everyday of his life. Not to mention the tax revenue it brings in to help build more schools and hospitals. (I have your back J-Dog)
